Proximity To Times Square

We got back a little while ago from our afternoon walk and already the New Years Eve-ers are out!

We're not far from Times Square, but not that close either, and there are barricades around the corner! Cops weren't letting anyone through to get closer to the festivities - it was crazy out there! They're expecting about 1 million people because the weather is so nice.

We met Officer Daniel Reefer who asked where my owner was from. She told him we lived around the corner - he thought we were tourists because we were taking pictures :-) His precinct is in Queens but they have everyone on duty here for New Years!

Good news: My owner and "The Other Guy" is heading to friends for the evening and they told me I can come! It'll be so much fun!! I'll post pictures tomorrow.

Researching Degenerative Myelopathy

The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Missouri has been doing a lot of research over the past years on my disease. They even have this test where they can identify the gene that causes the condition. So today my owner, grandma and I went to the vet to draw some of my blood to send to Missouri.

It wasn't my regular vet, but we got a last minute 4:30 appointment at the vet up the street. We were a little nervous because we were trying to make it to the post office before it closed at 5:00.

So we waited...

And waited...

And waited. What do you expect? It's a doctor's office.

We finally got in and they couldn't be nicer. They knew why we needed the sample so they took my blood fast and generously gave us a cool pack so it would keep in transit.

They even gave me a quick manicure to spiff me up! So kind!

We rushed to the post office and got there with three minutes to spare! The lady at the counter totally helped us out and we wouldn't be able to make tonight's mail without her help.

Winter Wonderland

Last night we got hit with a monster storm leaving about a foot and a half of snow.
Waking up this morning I found snow piles bigger than me!

Grandpa made this little pathway for me so I could get my wheels out.

I think we'll spend the rest of the day inside and enjoy the scenery, though it's mostly blocked for me...

Nor'easter

We just got in from our evening walk. We had no choice. This is the first big snowstorm this season and it's a doozie

The park was covered with snow so I had no "sniffing" areas.

I found a little space under some bushes to do my business so we could get outta there!

It's still snowing and not supposed to stop until tomorrow so we have to do this all again in the morning.

Waiting For Santa

I've been napping all day so I can stay up and see Santa get to our house.

We left out some milk and cookies for him but if he doesn't get here soon, you can be sure they'll be gone.

Home For The Holidays

Heading to the Grandparents for Christmas.

I used to almost always sit in the passenger seat but lately I'm getting a little needy and whine until my owner puts me in her lap for the ride. It probably looks dangerous but I'm nestled in pretty good and since I can't move, this is pretty much how I stay for the entire trip.

Morning Walk

This is Bullet. I met him today and learned he lives a few blocks south but comes up to our block every once in a while because of the pretty lights.

We got acquainted and his owner, Annie, gave me a chicken treat! I love friends with food!

I saw Bella today, too. She lives nearby and I see her a lot. She gave me a kiss hello...
...still got it.

Christmas Shoes

One of our favorite neighborhood places is the shoe shop around the corner.

Lorenzo runs the place and we sometimes stop in and say hi on our walk. He's so nice and one of the favorites on the block. One day my owner was running out and her belt broke - she ran into Lorenzo's and he fixed it right on the spot - for free! And he lets me hang out with the guys getting their shoes shined.

Today we went in to pick up some "very important shoes" - some old boots from some designer, blah, blah, blah...what do I know, I'm a guy, but my owner seemed very excited.

She said Lorenzo was a "miracle worker." He's a great guy but, geez, it's only shoes! (Don't tell my owner I said that.)

"The Other Guy" had a little laugh the other day. As you can see from my expression, I'm not amused.

You may not remember but not long ago "The Other Guy" brought this home for me...and I haven't seen it since.

...my owner broke out the bone!!

"Operation Santa"

This post really has nothing to do about me or my wheels but I thought it was important anyway.

Every Christmas we participate in the U.S. Postal Service program "Operation Santa." It helps needy kids who ask Santa for Christmas presents get their wishes fulfilled. The main post office on 33rd and 8th has tons of letters you can look through.

"Dear Santa" letters waiting for you to read.

This is Peter Fontana, head of "Operation Santa" here in New York. A week and a half ago when my owner and "The Other Guy" went to read letters, the Santa Station was already closed. Peter was so nice that he got them a bunch of letters from the back to read and stayed open a little while longer. He said unfortunately the turnout this year had been very poor and since they get about 2 million letters each season, a lot would go unanswered, which is sad because a lot of these kids just ask for clothes or warm winter coats.

But when my owner went to mail our gifts today, look what happened...

The "Operation Santa" line was huge! All people waiting to mail their gifts!

There were so many packages, the post office couldn't keep up!

My owner saw Peter and asked what happened - he said a few days after they were there, USA Today did a story on the program and it got picked up by all the newspapers around the country as well as the network newscasts. He said the turnout has been unbelievable! Better than they ever thought.
