More Friends

The main reason I started this blog was because after I got my wheels we started meeting all these great people in NYC. So many stopped to ask about my situation and gave me love. It makes me feel good.

These guys from Jersey stopped to say hi. While they were petting me this woman from Queens stopped, too.

When I was talking to the Jersey Boys, these guys also stopped to take my picture - they've never seen a dog in a wheelchair before. They were in from Cleveland for a kickboxing tournament. The one on the left is an MMA fighter. He was HUGE...and a little intimidating. But I wasn't scared because they kept petting me and saying how cute I was.

New Kid On The Block

This is Mickey. I met him today on my morning walk and he's handicapped, too.
He was found on the street and sent to the shelter. Mickey has no toes on his back left paw because they were burned off.

It's hard to see here but he was left with just a little nub. He limps when he walks and sometimes picks up leg entirely. But hopefully with some practice Mickey will be walking around like normal.

This is Mickey's new owner, Tia. He's only been home from the shelter a day so they were going off to the dog park to get some exercise. It looks like Mickey was rescued by a great family! I look forward to seeing him around the neighborhood and getting to know each other better.

...Errr...not that much better.

Runners and Wheelers

Today was the New York City Marathon and it's truly one of the great events we have here.

I'm lucky enough to live nearby the race route so for the past few years we've been enjoying the festivities. It's exciting to cheer on the racers - runners and wheelers!

We went into Central Park to watch but this was the only view I could get!

I couldn't see anything so we decided to walk further down the route...

But everyone kept staring and stopping to take my picture.

Even this professional looking guy. Maybe I'll be on the cover of Bark Magazine!...Or even Dog Fancy! Gasp!

These two ladies called me over as we headed further up the route. They're from Italy and just finished racing. The one on the left, I believe, is big-time in the wheelchair racing world. When they asked what was wrong with me my owner told them my back legs were paralyzed and the one on the right responded, "Well, then he is our comrade."

We ended up at the reception area for the wheelchair racers post race where they invited us in and we could watch the racers wheel right in after crossing the finish line. It was so exciting and we met so many people! Everyone was so nice; they kept petting me and offering me water.

But it was cool just to sit back and watch all the finishers come in. You could tell they were so happy with what they just accomplished.

What a classic New York City day. Congratulations to all the racers!

Backyard Renovation - Phase I

Today was a big day at the building. We have this great outdoor space in back that's been neglected for so long it was overrun with weeds and broken concrete. It's crazy, space in NYC is such a premium, I can't believe we've never used it - dog or human! So we decided it was time to fix it up. We cleared the area so it will be level and ready for refurbishment in the spring. I oversaw the process. Can you spot me in the picture above?

This is my friend, Maizie. She lives downstairs on the first floor. Isn't she cute?? I've always had a thing for redheads but she's a little young for me. She has so much energy - I can't keep up anymore. Well, we hung out today and made sure everything was going as planned.

Randall here was the foreman on the project. We broke up around 200 bags of concrete!
I supervised.

A hug break from Maizie's dad, Mitch.

Final product. It was a long day but we cleared the area.
Can't wait 'till spring!!

Watch Out Back There!

It's been a rainy couple of days here in NYC so I haven't been out much but we got a break so I'm on the move again!

I generally walk once around the block twice a day but that's sometimes extended depending on my...ahem..."business." I like the extra walk time, though, because it gives me more opportunities to meet people.

This is Ebi. He's a dog lover with a mixed breed dog at home so he stopped to ask about my legs and we got to talking - he's Nigerian, born in Ireland and lived in London. I noticed Ebi was very stylish - a sharp raincoat with nice shoes and cool, cuffed jeans all topped off with a super red velvet bow tie - and for good reason. He is a fashion stylist who was coming from an interview at a big hip-hop company. He's excited because they asked him to come back the next day for a follow up. We got his info - maybe he can stylize my wheels!
Good luck Ebi!!

We also met Eric who lives nearby. He had a collie about ten years ago who had the same problem as me. He didn't know about doggie wheelchairs back then but after seeing me he said he wish he did.
While talking to Eric I had to "excuse myself" but my owner was too busy talking to notice - which resulted in this......

You snooze, you loose.

PIZZA PARTY!

Yesterday we visited grandma in Jersey, which I always love, but it was a good and bad day for me.
At 4:30pm the humans put me on the bed - they were rushing to go somewhere so I was laid next to the pillow and they ran out. At 4:30! My dinner time is 4:00 every day for my whole life. Yes, there are some exceptions but I was hungry!
I don't know what I was thinking - I can't even remember if I did it purposely or I was just trying to situate myself but I fell off the side of the bed. Boom.
Grandma found me when they got back 45 minutes later and everyone was so upset I got a special pizza treat! I love all food but I really go crazy for pizza! But now, since I can't really move, I have to wait to be served. Before, I would reach around to get a bite when no one was looking. Or try and get up on the table to grab a slice when the coast was clear. But no more - hrmph!

YUMMMMMYYYY! I LOVE pizza!!

And now, a nap.......

At Least A Former New York Team Won

Tonight was the last baseball game of the season and though I fell asleep through a few middle innings, I watched the last outs. It's been pretty anticlimactic since my Yankees were bounced but I guess we can't win every year, right?
My favorite Yankees (in no order):   Mariano Rivera
                                                    Bernie Williams
                                                    Willie Randolph

Willie was before my time but he's my owner's favorite so I threw him in.
I've been told I look like Nick Swisher but I really don't see the resemblance...

In any case, congratulations to the San Francisco Giants. Now I can concentrate on football.
